Here is limited edition print on canvas by Edward Tibbs called "Singing in the Rain", it is very appropriate for the weather here in Northern Ireland.

For me the wee man with the umbrella puts me in mind of Andy Cap from the Daily Mirror cartoon, but that just shows my age.

Edward Tibbs images always bring a smile to my face and I hope they do the same for you.

Framed Andrew Strauss Cricket Shirt

Here is an example of one of our framed sports shirt. This shirt was signed by Andrew Strauss, as was the score book from the Belfrey golf club. The tricky bit was designing and cutting the mount to incorporate the book into it.

The customer was very pleased with the result, as were we and we have built up a good reputation for professionally framing sports shirts and other memorobilia.

Art Glass by Shepster

We've been reorganising our shop window and it now contains a display of glass art by Shepster and a small selection of Tyrone Crystal.

The art glass has been created by local artist Keith Sheppard and it has to been seen because it's fantastic. If you are shy come and have a look in our window over the weekend, or in the evening whilst on your constitutional.

Keith has recently had a successful exhibition at the Millennium Court Arts Centre in Portadown and he creates some fantastic and unique fused glass, which he often combines with copper.

Pieces can also be made to order so let us know what you think. You can post your comments or questions here or on our Facebook page.

Reflections on a hand painted mirror

We have just finished re-making and re-painting this mirror today. The customer wanted it to coordinate with her new decor and we were able to match some of the gold colours from her wallpaper so that it blends into her colour pallette.

It will make a big impact once it is hung in her dining room and has extended the life of this piece of furniture, which had been damaged, was falling apart and was going to be thrown out.

We offer a hand painting service for both new and recycled frames and also can provide a hand painted finish on mounts too.

Featured Artist for March

Our featured artist for March is Thuline de Cock.

Thuline was born 1970 in Bruges, Belgium. After finishing her studies in Interior Design in Gent, Belgium, she took a three year break to travel - visiting such countries as the U.S.A., Ghana, and several in Europe.

Thuline moved to England in 1996 and combines her passion for painting with raising a young family. She says “I observe animals; their shapes, gestures and mannerisms and in developing my ideas I take them quite often out of their context.

In my work I explore the possibilities of bringing the subjects in and out of focus. Composition plays an important role in my paintings and I sometimes use perspective to distort images. I like using bold colours.

I enjoy the gathering of information as much as I do the painting. Cows are funny creatures. Just like humans, they have their own characters - their faces show expressions and a curiosity that never stops to amaze and fascinate me.”

A number of Thuline’s prints are currently available in the shop.

Clinton Banbury

Clinton Banbury is an artist and illustrator based in Alcester, Warwickshire. His work is sold under the name “Clint’s Prints” and his portfolio is full of quirky animals, fantastic fairies and excitable pirates - all with Clint’s wryly comic take on the world.

Clint’s work may have become familiar to you over the last 30 years because his illustrations have featured in children’s stories and workbooks, all sorts of information and marketing, and even a series of weekly cartoons for the Times. Our featured artist for December is Allan Kirk, a local artist based in Co. Armagh.

Allan Kirk was born in Co. Armagh and studied at Belfast College of Art in the late seventies. After leaving college he travelled and worked in a series of art related jobs.

Working in his preferred medium of oils Allan’s paintings have been inspired by the colour and beauty of the landscapes, towns and villages across the north of Ireland. Fine art prints of his paintings have travelled to many homes across the world.

Eddie Emerson is Back

Yes, Eddie Emerson is back with a series of high quality prints from his original art pieces. The prints have a single mount and are enclosed in a crystal clear bag so that the quality of the work shines through.

For those of you who don’t know him, Eddie is a local artist who was born in Craigavon in 1975 and raised in Tandragee. After leaving school he worked for four years in Holland, Canada and Israel before settling in Portadown. He has worked as a landscape gardener, for his parents, for two local picture framers and in catering at weekends and he draws his inspiration from what he sees around him.

He was inspired at an early age by reprints of old classics, comics, album covers and the artistic talents of friends and family. His interest in art and his reading of many art books opened the door to Salvador Dali, the surrealists, impressionists, abstract painters and the classical arts.

Eddie's projects consist of 50% patient, disciplined reproduction art and 50% of random, freestyle creations. He is inventive and happy to try out new styles of art and creativity whilst also happily inspiring others.

His art pieces are created using clay and sometimes some oil paint. They are unique, innovative, quirky and colourful.

It was Helen Craig who when approached to illustrate the ‘Angelina’ books, suggested that Angelina should be a mouse.

Wheel and Walk for MS Society

We have just completed the Castlewellan Wheel and Walk in support of the MS Society and we are hoping to be able to raise a good few pounds for this worthy cause.

It's not too late to make a donation. You can either give Pelican Picture Framing some more of your hard earned money or you can donate directly through the MS Society website.

Golfing Prints

We are introducing a new range of golfing prints in the next few weeks from Art4Golfers. We are currently awaiting a signed print from Darren Clarke at the K Club. Here is a preview of the print.

The K Club Palmer course 18th hole is by Richard Chorley and is a Limited edition print of 995 . The image size is 15″ x 22″ and it is signed and numbered by the artist and countersigned by Darren Clarke.

£20 from the sale of each print is donated to The Darren Clarke Foundation to assist in purchasing cancer care equipment for the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Sports Shirts framing

Pelican Picture Framing are well known for the quality of their sports shirt framing and attract customers from a wide and diverse area. They have framed for individuals, schools, sports clubs, charity auctions and always have at least a couple of examples available in their shop to help customers understand what the finished product will look like.

Sports shirt framing can be done well or else extremely badly and Pelican framers are always keen to ensure that items framed are completed in a way that preserves the shirt in its original condition, does not cause any damage and if it has been bought as an investment does not reduce it's value due to the use of inappropriate products or techniques.

The frame can contain just the shirt but it should be kept away from the glass with a mount to reduce the possibility of water vapour or condensation damaging the material. Ideally the use of conservation glass is recommended to reduce colour fading and to help preserve and signatures that might be on the object. The shirt is sewn to the mount and not glued or stapled because everything they do is fully reversible.

Other objects can also be included in a frame with a sports shirt and frames have been completed to include cricket bats, booklets, photographs, VIP passes just to name a few examples.

Below is another example where we have included a booklet autographed by the player who wore the shirt. The mount was designed and cut especially to incorporate it.

Rugby shirt

When customers bring in signed shirts they are often like the first example covered in a teams signatures and this therefore makes for a large frame, particularly when an extra-large shirt has been signed. If a shirt only has a single signature then it can be folded to produce a smaller frame as seen here on the right with this example of a rugby shirt.

Framing a sports shirt properly is a job for someone who has been trained to look after your property and to make sure it is not damaged or devalued. It's a job for someone who can make sure that it will enhance your home or office for years to come.
